Bhumi Pujan Muhurat 2026: Why Shubh Muhurat Matters
Buying land for the construction of a building, house, or other structure is a crucial milestone in everyone’s life. In India, there is a widespread belief that seeking God’s blessings before commencing any new task brings luck, happiness, and prosperity. Indian families place great value on Vastu Shastra and Bhumi Pujan ceremonies. According to Vastu Shastra, Bhoomi Pujan is a significant ritual performed before the construction of a home to obtain divine blessings and attract positive energy.
Muhurat holds special significance in Indian astrology. There are two types of muhurats: Shubh Muhurat (auspicious time or acceptable time) and Ashubh Muhurat (inauspicious or inadmissible time). Obviously, you would want to perform Bhumi Pujan for house construction at an auspicious time (Shubh Muhurat).

What is Bhumi Pujan?
The word “Bhumi” refers to the earth. It is both the mother and the caretaker of the entire world. It not only provides us with food to eat, but also shelter to live in, water to drink, and air to breathe. Rivers, lakes, and roads—all run through the earth at some point. It provides a lot for us without asking for anything much in return. For this reason, it is often referred to as the mother in Hindu religious texts. Therefore, each one of us must accord it the utmost respect.
Before beginning any construction, it is important to perform a Bhumi Pujan ritual. This is one of the best ways to show you respect the Earth. The vast majority of Hindu Shastras advise doing so.
Bhumi Pujan, sometimes called Neev Pujan, is a Hindu ceremony. This puja is performed by people to appease Goddess Bhumi and Vastu Purusha (the deity of directions) and to show respect to them. During Bhumi Pujan, we also pay homage to the five constituent parts of the natural world. According to the beliefs, performing Bhumi Pujan during Shubh Muhurat will rectify any dosh on the land as well as any faults it may have. In addition, it creates Grahas (planets) on the landowner’s side. On the contrary, if the landowner does not do Neev Pujan before Griha Nirman, there would be a significant number of obstacles.

Bhumi Pujan Vidhi: How to Perform Bhumi Pujan or Neev Pujan for Griha Nirman
According to Vastu Shastra, you should always perform Bhumi or Neev Pujan in Shubh Muhurat following the Bhumi Pujan Vidhi. You should conduct the Bhumi Pujan in the northeast direction of the plot. Also, you should start construction of the house or office from the northeast.
Bhumi Pujan Vidhi says that you should draw a 64-part diagram in the northeast direction of the construction site. The 65-part diagram symbolizes Vastu Purusha. Different parts symbolize different deities. It is always best to perform Bhumi Pujan with a known Pandit Ji.
Pandit Ji will chant mantras for each deity to eliminate negative energies and obstacles along the way to house construction. After this, lay the first brick in a pit on the construction site. You must follow this Bhumi Pujan Vidhi to ensure a Vastu-compliant house construction.

Shubh Lagna for Bhumi Pujan & Griha Nirman
If you are thinking of starting house construction in 2026, you should avoid starting from Ashadha Shukla to Kartik Shukla. According to the beliefs, Lord Vishnu remains in eternal sleep from Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi to Kartik Shukla Ekadashi. So, if you start house construction during these months, you may not receive the blessings of Lord Vishnu. That’s why Hindus avoid these months for marriage and prefer Vivah Shubh Muhurats.
