In the colourful land of Rajasthan, Ajmer is one of the oldest cities in the state. Being centrally located it is often also called the heart of Rajasthan.

The city was established by a ruler of the Chahamana dynasty back in the 12th century and was named "Ajayameru" which translates as "Invincible Hills".

Climate and Weather of Ajmer

Ajmer has a hot, semi-arid climate. The temperatures remain relatively high throughout the year. The primary summer months are from April to early July having an average daily temperature of about 30 °C (86 °F). Rain occurs in the monsoon months, between June and September with over 55 centimetres (22 inches) of rain every year. The winter months of November to February are mild and temperate with average temperatures ranging from 15–18 °C (59–64 °F) with little or no humidity. There are, however, occasional cold weather fronts that cause temperatures to fall to near freezing levels.

Economy in Ajmer

1. Ajmer Sharif Dargah

This Dargah makes Ajmer is one of the most important destinations of Islamic pilgrimage in South Asia. Being the final resting place of the Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, it has had an enormous contribution in spreading the ethical and spiritual values of Islam amongst the masses. The place is the epitome of commendable Mughal architecture as well. It was built by the great king Humayun in commemoration of the Khwaja, who was a Sufi saint and dedicated all his life to the upliftment of the poor.

2. Ana Sagar Lake

This one is an artificial lake situated amidst the beautiful city. Its speciality is that it was built by Arnoraja, the father of Prithvi Raj Chauhan in 1135-1150AD. The lake is also named after him as he was also known as Anna. The serene lake is spread over 13km and is a major tourist attraction. One can easily spend their weekends or evenings there while taking a long walk.

3. Adhai Din ka Jhopda

This unique name comes from the uniqueness in its origin story. Legend has it that this entire Indo-Islamic work of architecture was built in just two and a half days, hence the Hindi name- Adhai Din ka Jhopda. This is a Masjid which was built by Qutub Ud-Din Aibak back in 1199AD. One must truly visit the place to soak in its beauty and divinity.

4. Akbar's Palace

A place constructed in 1570AD, still standing strong. The structure was constructed back in the day especially for King Akbar and his troops whenever they came to visit the Ajmer Sharif Dargah.

The place has a famous museum with exhibits of sculptures, paintings and other artefacts of the Mughal era. The place is also uniquely famous for the large idol of Goddess Kali that it houses.

5. Ajmer Jain Temple or Soniji Ki Nasiyan

This is a Digambar Jain temple dedicated to Lord Rishabhdev (Agnidev), the first of the 24 Tirthankara (spiritual teacher of the dharma) of Jainism. The main attraction of the temple is the main chamber, known as the Swarna Nagari "City of Gold", which has several gold-plated wooden figurines, depicting several figures in Jainism.

Although only Jains are allowed inside the main temple and in the prayer area, its insides with a replica of Ayodhya carved in the wood itself attracts a lot of eyeballs.
